Installation & Grant Information

Installation

The key to a successfully operating solar water heating system is the quality of the design of the system as a whole and the experience of the installer. Sunriver only recommends solar water heating accredited installers who are registered with EECA.

Building Consent

A building consent is required for installation which your installer will assist you with, however some councils offer reduced consent fees to encourage solar water heating.

New Homes

Getting a Sunriver Solar Hot Water System and a solar ready hot water storage cylinder installed while the house is being built will substantially decrease your installation costs.

Retrofit For Existing Homes

It is possible to retrofit a Sunriver Solar Hot Water System to an existing conventional hot water cylinder however modification to the plumbing is required. We recommend you talk to your local Sunriver Installer for advice on the best options available.

Collector Location

For optimum performance the solar collector should face true north, however 30 degrees either direction will only decrease efficiency marginally depending on pitch. The ideal angle of the inclination is 40 degrees but a deviation of plus/minus 20 degrees is acceptable without effecting performance significantly.

Flat Roof

Because the collector should be installed at a minimum of 20 degree angle to ensure optimal performance, a flat roof assembly pack is available for flat roof homes.

Accreditation

The New Zealand manufactured Steelfort Sunriver Solar Hot Water system is AS/NZ2712:2007 and AS/2535N compliant and an accredited supplier.

ECCA EnergyWise Solar Grant

If you are a homeowner who purchases a Sunriver EECA approved packaged system, obtain a building consent for the installation and have it installed by an EECA registered installer, you will be eligible for the EECA $1000 Grant. There are two options for funding, either a grant of $1000 towards the cost of the system or a contribution of $1000 towards the cost of a loan to purchase the system.
